Designed to upgrade tension-cable lighting systems, TONDO is a compact side table that self-locks directly onto the taut cable, adding a practical support surface without interfering with the original structure, its functionality, or its visual balance. Conceived as a minimal yet meaningful extension, the object transforms an existing lighting system into a more versatile and multifunctional element suited to contemporary ways of living.
Lightweight yet stable, TONDO creates an immediate landing spot for everyday essentials such as smartphones, glasses, keys, small books, headphones, or personal accessories, introducing an additional layer of usability without altering the identity of the original object. The intervention is intentionally discreet: rather than dominating the lighting system, TONDO integrates into it as a coherent continuation of its formal and structural logic.
The project reflects Reformà’s broader design approach, based on the evolution of existing products through precise and functional modifications capable of extending their use and relevance over time. By working on transformation instead of replacement, TONDO demonstrates how even a minimal intervention can generate new possibilities of interaction between object, space, and user.
Produced through additive manufacturing and characterized by a refined matte finish, TONDO combines technical precision with visual neutrality, allowing it to blend naturally into both residential and architectural environments. The result is a smart, coherent upgrade for an icon-ready typology, where light, function, and everyday utility converge into a single integrated system.
